Who am I?
My name is Eric Frohardt, and I am launching a Substack. I’ve thought about doing this for a while and finally decided to “just do it” this year!
Background?
Over the years, I have had lots of people message me, email me, or call me asking for advice on certain things. Examples include Firearms (selection, training, carrying, etc.), Personal Protection/Self-Defense, Fitness, and of course Fun!
Why am I doing this?
These are ALL things I am passionate about. So, I decided to write about them here on a regular basis. That way, I have somewhere to send people the next time they ask me (which will save some time), and a way for others who are interested in these topics to benefit as well.
About me?
For starters, I was a Navy SEAL. While serving, I was stationed at SEAL Team Five and Naval Special Warfare Development Group. It was the best job I ever had, but it wouldn’t last. After nearly 12 years, I was medically retired after getting injured in combat.
After the Navy, I worked a bunch of different jobs. One of them was as an adjunct instructor at a world-class shooting school. Later, I would own and operate a gun range and gun store that also offered ‘high speed firearms training’ for law abiding Americans. This gave me the opportunity to train hundreds, maybe thousands, of people. Their skill levels ranged from beginners all the way to seasoned experts (from soccer moms to SWAT teams). I also taught our instructors.
Then, I followed another passion and went to work in the fitness industry. I was fortunate enough to work for one of the real icons of strength and conditioning training and work with some amazing kettlebell, barbell, and bodyweight training experts. I’ve was always passionate about fitness and loved having it as my job.
As much as I loved (and still love) fitness, I was eventually called back into the firearms industry. This time, I went to work for the NRA as the Director of Education and Training nationwide. I served in that role for roughly 3-years before parting ways and eventually moving back to Omaha to raise my family.
Now, I primarily work as a business consultant and public speaker. I take my lessons learned from the military and private sector and distill them down to help other organizations develop leaders, build their teams, and strengthen their culture. That’s how I pay the bills.
I truly love talking about leadership, teamwork, and culture and I am grateful to share what I’ve learned to help other companies. But I am also passionate about self-defense (firearms and fighting), fitness (strength, conditioning, and skill training), fun (hobbies), and most of all my faith. So, I’m launching this Substack to share these things with others and hopefully help with some basics.
What I’m not?
I am not a world champion competition shooter. I haven’t done many competitions at all. I don’t have a black belt in any martial art and I am not a certified personal trainer.
Who I am?
I’m a Christian, a Husband and a Father with a busy professional life who also happens to be interested in staying fit and being able to defend myself, my family, and loved ones without spending hours in the gym, dojo, or gun range.
I’m a ‘has-been’, former Navy SEAL. I’m now more of an ‘enthusiast’ than an ‘operator’ or ‘professional.’ But… I do think about these things and experiment with different programs and methods. I have my own approach to training and I’m excited to share.
What to expect?
My plan is to post a short article here at least once per week. Eventually I want to get up to twice per week if time allows. The topics will mostly be about firearms (selection, training, carrying, etc.), self-defense and personal protection (in general and some specifics), fitness (fitness for the purpose of readiness and adventure), all with my foundation: FAITH!
Next?
If these are things you find interesting, please subscribe. If you know others who might be interested, please share. I am excited share and hoping this will help a few others along the way. Onward!
Giddyup!
Welcome, Eric!
